about

The DESIRE EP is a two song saga that explores Allá’s DEEP love for HOUSE and SYNTH music. You won’t hear the lavish orchestrations of their first album 2008’s Es Tiempo or the krautrock experiments they did with 2009’s EP Digs both for Crammed Discs. The DESIRE EP is a cosmic blend of analog synths, FM synthesis, drum machines and plenty of samplers. Lupe Martinez vocals throughout channels her equal love for Janet Jackson and Elizabeth Fraser, love passion and grit.

DESIRE ONE is heavily inspired by the records by German 70s synth explorers Cluster and UK dubstep innovator Burial , it was put away and shelved deemed not ready for public consumption. Months later they revisited the song and rewrote it as DESIRE TWO. They loved the CHICAGO HOUSE infused energy of DESIRE TWO and that was set for release as a stand-alone single but the almost forgotten vastness of DESIRE ONE was given another listen. Together it was the perfect complete sonic duality. A complete statement together. The songs exist in a parallel universe in which Allá confidently and comfortably co-exist. Cerebral European sonic experiments injected with the grit of Chicago House Music.

Like their artistic name Allá (away) , a term Chicanos use to describe Mexico and a word Mexicans often use to describe America. The DESIRE EP is a statement of Allá’s continued pursuit to remake a culture that is neither here nor there. It’s all omnipresent, bring it all in as the band likes to say.
